Safety Suggestions for First Time Dates

15% Off Match.com - Start Search For Love

If you are lonely and are searching for that true friend, finding that soul mate may be the top priority. Here are 4 simple steps to meeting someone.

Now, if you are one of the millions of seniors dating for the first time in while or have been playing the field, it can be exciting and fun. However, especially on first time dates, security should be of utmost importance.

Let’s say that you have found that friend online or through other means and have now decided to meet in person. This could be the companion you have been waiting and looking for. Now it is time to meet that special someone. Caution should be of supreme importance for first time daters, especially senior daters.

Here are some common sense tips when it comes to meeting and dating people for the first time:

Our most important rule that is above all others: That first time - TAKE A FRIEND!

You may have chatted online or even video conference over the net, but you just never know. Anyway, three or more can be a lot of fun and it may be easier to break the ice. Her are our other safety suggestions:

1. Always insist that you meet your date at a safe and crowded place such as the local mall, or a crowded bar or restaurant.

2. Do not give out your address and never agree to meet him or her at your home the first time. You wouldn’t let any stranger into your home, would you? Even though you may have been chatting with this person for quite some time on the net and may think that you “really know him or her”, isn’t it better just to be safe? Not only is it just plain smart, but it shields you from further possible contact if you decide not to meet for the second time.

3. Always give your mobile number and never your home number and never allow someone to use any type of tracking software through your phone.

4. Never agree to get picked up at your house, insist on driving yourself to the venue and make sure you have plenty of gas in the car just in case you decide to bag it (leave). Who knows, what if you do not like the person you meet? Haven’t we all seen enough movies that teach us about the date gone bad that turns into the proverbial stalking horror show? All kidding aside, at this point your date hopefully does not know your home address or your home phone number. And, since, you will have your own transportation you can get home safely.

5. Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, there probably is a problem. If you feel like you need to call the police or get security – DO IT. Always better safe than sorry.

6. If you go to a restaurant or a movie or just out on the town, insist that you share the bill and buy your own tickets. This will eliminate any obligation perceived or otherwise.

7. If you are in a bar, again buy your own drinks especially on the first date and keep an eye on your glass. Make sure there is a good crowd of people there, for safety reasons.

8. If you date tells you that they are very religious or spiritual, this doesn't mean that you are safe. Take if with a pinch of salt. Wales in general have been pretty much spiritual for centuries.

9. If for some reason you cannot get a friend to go with you, tell a friend who you are with and where you intend to go. If you deviate from that schedule, call your friend with the new itinerary.

10. If something doesn’t seem right, or if you don’t want to be there anymore, just get out. You’ve heard the old adage, “You can’t judge a book by its cover”, well just throw it away, there numerous others now with the connections that can be made on the interent. Again, trust your instincts. Just a reminder, that’s why you need your own transportation.

At our age, let’s be safe! You cannot be too cautious. Because it’s not worth the trouble if something goes wrong, even just once.
